Black fat bodies deserve the world.
In the world of fine art, Black fat bodied folks are not equally represented as soft, loveable, artistic figures compared to thin, abled, white bodies. Part of my work as not only a business owner, but also as a Black fat person, is to accurately represent us in media. Using my background in visual artistry, I have decided to create the imagery so desperately needed within these spaces.
Color Intentions: Of the limited representation that is available for fat Black folks, the vast majority of said imagery is light skinned leaning. Dark skinned fat Black folks are used as punch lines to cruel jokes and scapegoats for unjust treatment. I intentionally used dark brown paint to create this figure to reframe the line of thinking around fat Black dark skinned bodies. Gold metallic paint is used to highlight the beauty of stretch marks on fat bodies. Stretch marks are normal parts of life, and deserve to be seen as such. I used shades of green to highlight the natural, valuable presence of fatness within dark skinned Black bodies.
Painted with archival acrylic paint, this piece would make a wonderful addition to your home.
Will require tools to properly display along a wall fixture.
